"This wine is not aged in oak, allowing it to express the land and the grape with minimal intervention. It’s edgy and energetic, with a hint of meat and leather, and should appeal to fans of natural wines. It skirts the conventions of what a tannat — or any red wine — should be, and tries to show us what wine can become if we don’t hold it back." Dave McIntyre, Washington Post Wine Critic
Winemaker: Maria Eldy Contreras

Notes: Coming from the Southwest of France, Samaipata manages to highlight the best of its varietal characteristics. A great Tannat of altitude, unique in its expression of the mild, cool climate of the rocky hills of Uvairenda. Very intense, with plenty of body and strength, and at the same time keeping the elegance that characterizes wines from 1750. The 1750 Tannat is a pride of Bolivia, highlighted in restaurants and prize-winning shops and columnist for the Washington Post rated it at a mid-point between excellent and exceptional.
Acclaimed Master Sommelier, Ian Cauble, described this remarkable well-balanced yet full-bodied red wine as being like "a 300-pound pro football lineman who works on his agility by taking ballet."
Pairing: This wine is best decanted for 45 minutes, grilled meats, burgers and surprisingly delicious on its own at the end of a long day.
